Government Releases 20,000 Packages for Support At Home

The Albanese Government has announced that 20,000 new Home Care Packages will be released before the end of October, with another 20,000 Support at Home packages being released in 2025 after 1st November. This decision comes in response to community and sector pressure to address the growing waitlist for older Australians needing in-home support.

Why This Matters for Older Australians

In October 2025, there was more than 100,000 people waiting for a Home Care Package. Many families know how challenging these wait times have been. The release of these packages means that thousands of people will soon have access to the support they need to remain safe and independent at home.

What’s Next?

  • October: 20,000 packages will be brought forward and released.
  • November–December: Another 20,000 packages will enter the system.
  • 2026: An additional 43,000 packages will roll out in the first half of the year.

This is part of the government’s broader plan to for Support at Home Program, starting 1 November.
