When you are the Carer for your ageing loved ones

Being present as a parent or spouse ages in place can be difficult and if you find yourself having to take on the role of family Carer you will be faced with many unique challenges. Seeking the right support for yourself in this new role can make all the difference to you and your loved ones. Help is at hand with Home Care Assistance Sydney City and East.

When is the right time for home care?

Knowing when a loved one who is ageing in place needs additional care and support can be difficult to determine. Sometimes it is quite apparent, such as following an injury or sudden change, but at other times the cues may be subtle. Alterations to eating habits, signs of memory loss, changes to energy levels or difficulty in taking part in daily activities can all be signs that extra assistance could help someone live a more fulfilled and less effortful life. If you’ve noticed any changes in behaviour, increased frailty, or perhaps want to sense check some changes you are noticing in your elderly loved one, the team at Home Care Assistance Sydney City and East are ready to help.

Respecting our ageing loved ones

Research shows that 80% of older Australians prefer to age in the comfort of their own home rather than an aged care facility*. We all want what is best for our ageing loved ones, and to respect their choices, so if we find ourselves having to make choices on their behalf, it can be challenging. At Home Care Assistance Sydney City and East, we exist to support you and your loved ones in observing their clear preferences to age in place.

Although preferring to stay at home, for some people, the thought of having Care workers in their home might not initially align with their sense of privacy or independence, resulting in resistance to the idea. Home Care Assistance Sydney City and East can support you with strategies to help alleviate any concerns or fears and make the transition to receiving support easier on you and your loved ones.

Home care funding options

In Home Care services can be privately funded, but there are also options that can be fully or partially government funded such as Home Care Packages, the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and Carer Gateway respite.

Private pay Home Care

At Home Care Assistance Sydney City and East, we have extremely competitive hourly rates to assist you should you choose to pay privately for in home care services. There can be many reasons for choosing this payment option, such is if you need care urgently, you only need care short term, or you simply don’t want Government agencies determining the level of care needs.

Home Care Packages

A Home Care Package is a government subsidised package for people over the age of 65 living at home used to provide the support services you need. Domestic assistance, personal care, nutritional assistance, transport and shopping help, allied health services, care related equipment and care related home modifications can all be funded under a Home Care Package. For Aged Care Pensioners, these packages can be fully subsidised, so there is no out of pocket cost.

The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)

The CHSP applies for seniors over the age of 65 to maintain independence while living at home by providing support to access entry level support services, rather than doing things for you. These services are subsidised but generally involve a small contribution from the person utilising the services. CHSP can also be utilised whilst you are waiting for your Home Care Package to be allocated.

Carer Gateway Respite

When you are a family Carer, this program can provide emergency respite care at short notice if you find you are suddenly unable to give care or support e.g., you are ill or injured. Phone 1800 422 737 to learn more.

Home Care Assistance run by Jeremy and Samantha, a lovely couple with a caring attitude and a family themselves. After bringing my Mum to Sydney and needing expert help immediately I found HCA online... and liked their story. As soon as they walked in our door, we knew we were safe. I liked the fact that there was direct contact with the owners and nothing was too much trouble. The carers selected for Mum were perfect for her and very capable. Unfortunately Mum has had to move to a nursing home now but I would happily recommend this wonderful business to anyone with aged care needs.read more
Jeremy is a really good man, he has fantastic family values and cares for everyone. I would definitely recommend Health Care Assistance to help you and your family
As a former employee of this company working in the office and as a Carer, I cannot recommend this company enough. They genuinely care for their clients and employees. I loved working there with... Jeremy and his staff, but unfortunately had to leave due to relocation. I would not hesitate to recommend HCA Syd East to all clients who are aged and/or with disabilities to engage this service provider for all their vital services to enable you to live and enjoy staying in your own home and to be as independent as possible. Jeremy and his staff really listen to your needs, goals and aspirations and do their very best to match you up with a compatible and suitably qualified Carer. Nothing is too much trouble.read more
